On January 27, 2014, from 6:45 pm to 9:00 pm, the East Windsor Beth El Synagogue Israel Affairs Committee will present ‘It Is No Dream: The Life of Theodor Herzl’. This 2012 film explores the life and times of Theodor Herzl, the visionary father of modern State of Israel. It examines how Herzl, a well-known journalist and playwright and an assimilated Budapest born Jew, took upon himself the task of attempting to create a Jewish homeland. Against all odds, Herzl organized and led a worldwide political movement that within 50 years led to the establishment of the State of Israel. A short discussion at the end of the film will focus on the following questions. What are the characteristics of leaders such as Herzl and Moses and are there any similarities or differences between these two men? What are the goals of the Zionist movement? What are some myths and misconceptions about Zionism? Dairy refreshments will be provided. Beth El Synagogue is located at 50 Maple Stream Road, East Windsor, NJ; 609-443-4454; www.bethel.net.
